You Need to Learn These Key Ice Fishing Safety Tips

Posted on December 05 2017

Before winter gets here you'll need to buff up on some ice fishing safety tips. Rick Seifert, a contributing writer for The Fisherman Magazine, is here to show you the basic safety protocols and procedures for when you're on the ice this winter.

Remember next time you're on the ice that smooth ice can be very dangerous. To ensure you don't slip, consider getting a pair of ice cleats. Another key thing to check is the thickness of the ice, as Seifert mentioned it should be at least three inches thick.

If the worst happens and someone falls in the ice, be sure you have a pair of safety picks and 100 feet of rope to help extract them from the water.
